Where Christiana households buy groceries

Christiana sits south of Murfreesboro along U.S. 231 and the Shelbyville Highway corridor, and it does not have a full-service grocery store. Most weekly shopping runs north into the south side of Murfreesboro, where South Rutherford Boulevard and Joe B. Jackson Parkway carry a Publix and two Walmart Supercenters. Buyers who head to Shelbyville for work often shop there instead.

South and southeast: South Rutherford Boulevard and Joe B. Jackson Parkway

The natural direction for Christiana, the Barfield area, and the south Church Street corridor.

  • Publix (Kensington Place), 1731 S Rutherford Blvd
  • Walmart Supercenter, 2900 S Rutherford Blvd
  • Walmart Supercenter, 140 Joe B Jackson Pkwy

If you continue to the west side

Specialty grocery for the households willing to make a planned trip.

  • Costco, 1524 Beasie Rd
  • Publix (Market at Salem Cove), 2650 New Salem Hwy

From the Christiana side of the county, Trader Joe's and Sprouts on the west side of Murfreesboro are a cross-town trip. Treat them as a weekend errand rather than a weekday stop.

Store names and addresses were checked against each retailer's store locator in September 2026. Hours, operators, and openings change, so confirm details before you plan a trip around any single store.

What this means for your home search

How grocery stores shape a Christiana home decision

Where you shop is a proxy for how a home fits your week. The three points below come up in almost every Christiana search Jackie works.

Shop on the way home

Christiana households commuting into Murfreesboro, Nashville, or Shelbyville generally shop on the return trip. Match the listing to your route: U.S. 231 and South Church Street feed the South Rutherford Boulevard stores, while I-24 commuters can use the Joe B. Jackson Parkway exit.

Newer subdivisions versus rural lots

Christiana has both new communities near the Murfreesboro line and rural acreage farther south. The subdivisions keep grocery runs short. The acreage adds time to every trip but delivers the land most buyers came here for.

Check the school route too

Christiana is served by Rutherford County Schools, and the daily school run often overlaps with the grocery run. Jackie will map both from any listing you send him.

Test the loop before you offer

Drive the errand route from the driveway, not the map

When you tour a home in Christiana, drive the real loop you will run most weeks: work, the grocery store, school or daycare, the pharmacy, and back home. Do it at the time of day you would actually go. Map distance hides turn lanes, school traffic, and the difference between a straight run and a cross-town drive.

Tell Jackie where you work and he will tell you which Christiana roads put the South Rutherford Boulevard stores on your way home.
